A Look at the Advantages of the 2024 Mazda CX-30 Over the Honda HR-V
January 18 2024,
If you are in the market for a new sub-compact SUV, you probably know that this is one of the most popular and competitive market segments in Canada. This means that each automaker has to offer great products in order to attract buyers, which can make choosing your next vehicle quite difficult. Here are a few of the reasons why you should buy the 2024 Mazda CX-30 over the Honda HR-V.
Performance and Powertrain
The 2024 Mazda CX-30 is equipped as standard with a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine, which delivers an output of 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides a robust and responsive driving experience while also making for a very fuel-efficient vehicle, more so than the Honda HR-V, in fact. There’s also a turbocharged version of the same engine available on the CX-30, which further enhances the vehicle’s performance, with an output of 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using premium fuel. On the other hand, the Honda HR-V 2024 comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces only 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. While this engine is reliable, it doesn’t offer the same level of performance and economy as the Mazda CX-30’s standard engine.
Technology and value
The 2024 Mazda CX-30 features a larger infotainment screen and now includes wireless functionality for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in some trim levels. This means you can connect your smartphone to the vehicle’s system without the need for any cables, providing a more seamless and convenient user experience. The Honda HR-V 2024 also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but only the top-of-the-line EX-L NAVI version offers the wireless feature.
In addition, the 2024 Mazda CX-30 is a better value than the 2024 Honda HR-V since it benefits from more standard and available features despite its lower price. For example, the entry-level CX-30 GX includes items such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, variable-speed intermittent windshield wipers, and of course, the competent i-Activ all-wheel drive system, despite its starting price which is almost $3,000 lower than the entry-level Honda HR-V.
This value advantage isn’t reserved for the entry-level version of the CX-30 either, as even when moving up in the respective lineups, the CX-30 is always priced a few thousand dollars lower than the HR-V with a similar level of equipment. In addition, the new-for-2024 Suna edition of the 2024 Mazda CX-30 is a unique model that has no equal in the HR-V range. This version features all of the same equipment as the GT trim level and it adds the turbocharged engine as standard, along with a unique Zircon Sand paint colour and terracotta leather upholstery.
Conclusion
As you can see, while both vehicles have their strengths, the 2024 Mazda CX-30 offers more power, better fuel efficiency, better technology, and a wider range of options, despite a lower price across the board than the 2024 Honda HR-V which gives it the edge in this comparison.
