The 2025 Mazda CX-70 has Been Unveiled
February 13 2024,
Mazda has now unveiled the 2025 CX-70, its latest SUV and an interesting alternative for drivers who like the new CX-90 but don’t need its seven-passenger capacity. Here is our first look at this new model and all it has to offer.
A modern and dynamic design
As you can see, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 is almost identical to the recent CX-90, with the main difference being that the CX-70 is shorter and doesn’t feature a third row of seats. Other changes include unique alloy wheel designs, black and dark chrome accents that replace the bright chrome found on the CX-90, and different interior materials such as red leather and grey metallic inlays. This means that the CX-70 builds on the CX-90 in terms of dynamic design and sportiness, with a more aggressive appearance that complements its high level of performance and its lively handling.
Two advanced powertrains
Speaking of performance, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 benefits from the same two powertrains as the CX-90, which are the two most modern drive systems offered by Mazda. Starting with the base model, the CX-70 will be powered by a 3.3L turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. While we don’t know the exact specifications of the CX-70, we expect this engine to deliver the same amount of power as it does in the CX-90, which means an output of either 280 horsepower or 340 horsepower and up to 369 lb-ft of torque. The other powertrain option is a plug-in hybrid system that combines a 2.5L Skyactiv four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 17,8-kWh battery. This gives the CX-90 PHEV an output of 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, as well as an electric range of 42 kilometres. Here again, we can expect the CX-70 to match or exceed the CX-90 thanks to its smaller size and lower weight.
Impressive practicality
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 remains a very practical SUV despite its lack of a third row of seats. Indeed, the CX-70 benefits from a generous cargo capacity that can be easily expanded by folding the rear seats with the remote levers installed in the cargo compartment. Other features that enhance practicality include a hidden storage space under the load floor, bag hooks, and an available 1,500 W power outlet on some models. Mazda also includes a trailer hitch view feature that uses the rear-view camera to help the driver attach a trailer on their own. Speaking of trailering, the CX-70 is capable of towing up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.
Advanced technology
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 also offers the latest technologies from Mazda in terms of connectivity, infotainment, and driver assistance. For example, the CX-70 is the very first Mazda SUV to include Amazon Alexa, a feature that allows anyone on board to access information and controls using only their voice, thus allowing the driver to concentrate on their surroundings rather than on the center screen. In addition, the CX-70 adds Unresponsive Driver Support to the existing Cruising and Traffic Support system, a technology that can safely bring the vehicle to a stop if the driver fails to react to prompts from the system, such as during a medical emergency.
More information about the 2025 Mazda CX-70, including pricing, will be released soon.
