What to Expect from the New 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid
July 30 2024,
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 promises to be more popular than ever with the addition of an available hybrid powertrain to the lineup. Here is an overview of this new model and what sits under its hood.
An electrified powertrain
The new 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid benefits from Mazda’s partnership with Toyota to offer a modern and efficient hybrid powertrain. Indeed, the CX-50 can now be ordered with the same hybrid system as the Toyota RAV4, one of its main competitors. In detail, this means the CX-50 hybrid offers an output of 219 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque, more than enough for most drivers. While the powertrain was developed by Toyota, Mazda engineers have gone over it to make sure the CX-50 hybrid still feels like a Mazda should, notably by fine-tuning the accelerator response to make for a more responsive feel, especially in city driving. By leveraging electrification, the CX-50 Hybrid and its self-contained powertrain can boast a 40% increase in fuel efficiency over the already frugal SkyActiv-powered CX-50.
Small design changes
To distinguish itself from its combustion-powered counterparts, the 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid gets treated to a few small design changes inside and outside, such as new alloy wheel designs, a revised lower front fascia, and an available Garnet Red leather upholstery. This allows the new model to stand out from other CX-50 versions without being too “out-there” in terms of design, which is a common complaint addressed to electrified vehicles. If you like the looks of the CX-50, you’ll also like the appearance of the new hybrid version.
Three trim levels to choose from
The 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid is available in three trim levels that give buyers a wider selection in order to fit their budget and their needs. This starts with the entry-level GS-L model, which includes items such as 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10,25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic moonroof, a power liftgate, and wireless device charging as standard, with a $42,950 MSRP.
Next is the distinctive Kuro Edition, a model that builds on the CX-50’s already modern and dynamic design with the addition of black exterior elements, such as the roof rails, and the available red leather upholstery. A power passenger seat and memory settings for the driver’s seat are also included, at a starting price of $44,850.
Finally, the CX-50 GT Hybrid is the most expensive electrified model in the lineup. To justify its $48,350 MSRP, this version includes a number of premium features such as unique 19-inch alloy wheels, bright exterior accents, automatic folding side mirrors, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with HomeLink remote controls, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, available black leather upholstery with camel stitching, and black metal interior trim inserts.
The new 2025 Mazda CX-50 hybrid adds more efficiency and sustainability to an already winning formula.
